I am a transplant, which is not a new concept to me,         as I've always been a transplant.

Mission:

As an artist, I've always attempted to create a narrative through my art. For some, artwork and the themes therein are unattainable, mysterious or difficult to understand. My mission is to create work that is fully attainable for anyone, yet maintains the contemplative themes that are chosen. At the root of my work, it can be broken down to something simplistic: A portrait of a person or an animal, colors, hands or a different world. These simple concepts, at face value, could be all that you take from my work; and that is perfectly fine. But, if you want to delve deeper into the themes, the narrative portrayal or the characters in a larger story, the thought process is there and the tools are within your reach.

Biography:

Shane Izykowski, born Oh Jin Kwon in Taegu, South Korea, was adopted at the age of two. Living in Northeastern Pennsylvania for most of his life, Shane has dabbled in many different mediums and art forms. He is mostly self taught, and has spent a great deal of time experimenting with music, painting, drawing, 3D and interactive sculpture, special effects and makeup, filmmaking and directing, writing poetry and scripts, costuming, mural work and photography. He's owned his own photography business, was the Art Director for a community art gallery for two years, founded Project Street Art in 2014 and won awards for short films and community service. He's also been featured on Regis and Kelly Live for his Halloween costume in 2006, and The Today Show in 2007. He's been nominated in his field as a Silver Award Winner for Best Wedding Photographer in the Poconos in 2013, and Top 40 Under 40 by the Pocono Record in 2013 for outstanding leadership. He also won a second place award for the music video "Icarus" by Edelweiss in Philadelphia in 2014.

In 2015, Shane and his partner Sonia Leticia (www.sonialeticia.com) drove over 3,000 miles to San Francisco, CA, where they now live and work. Shane is the lead artist for the Studio department at Madame Tussauds San Francisco, where he manages an artist team that maintains wax figures and the interactive attraction on Fisherman's Wharf. In September of 2015, Shane was accepted into the Artspan Residency Program, which allowed 20+ Bay Area artists to have low cost studio space to create their personal work. Shane's studio is located within a few city blocks from Twitter, Square, Uber, and Dolby. His new body of work since beginning the residency has been a definitive collection of past experience, new challenges and personal growth.

Currently, you can find Shane at art events, eating the diverse cultural food that San Francisco has to offer, or at his studio at 1540 Market Street, SF. His personal goals are to show more work in more galleries, and create enough work for a solo show in the coming year.
